A person called Database designer or Database developer , what does he do??

Have you ever asked yourself how people's information such as addresses, names, phone numbers and ages are being stored in big companies such as Facebook?

Why MySQL is being used by many companies such as Uber, Amazon, Netflix, Pinterest, Shopify, Twitter.

✍️In this article I will answer all these questions just bring your coffee and let's begin 🥤

🧑‍💻 What does a person call a Database designer 👨‍🎨 or Database developer 👨🏻‍💻 do?

Database Designer is our hero who designs ERD (Entity Relationship Diagram), creates database objects, maps the database, and makes relations between them as in the photo below.

It's just two entities or objects each of them has its attributes or their own stuff, the student has (name as Karim, class as 2B, id as 190222) and Faculty has its own stuff and there is a relation between them where the student is taught by college and college is teaching the student.

Database Designer must have a solid working knowledge of the following:

Data Modeling, Database design

Object-Oriented Analysis and Design techniques

System Architecture, including Database and System performance tuning, as well as hardware and network workload balancing

Database Administration
an understanding of the implementation language and environment

🔆Database Developer

He is responsible for database implementation using RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) such as MySQL, this person must know how to make queries and be good at SQL (Structured Query Language).

🟢How People's information is being stored in big companies as Facebook?

When you are signing up for a new account on Facebook some information is required such as first name, last name, etc...

Your data is stored in tables like the photo below and each account 📒 has its own id 🔑 to be unique, they use efficient algorithms to store your information in an optimized way and the searching process doesn't take a while.

❓Why MySQL is being used by many companies? 🤔

Benefits of MySQL:

Open-source and compatible: This simply means that anyone can install and use the basic software, while also enabling third parties to modify and customize the source code.

Fast and reliable: MySQL was developed for speed, and maintains a reputation for being fast, even if this may come at the expense of some additional features. It is also known for its reliability, backed by a large community of programmers that have put the code through tough testing over the years.

Availability: Online businesses and web platforms need to be able to provide round-the-clock services for a global audience, and high availability is a core feature of MySQL. It uses a range of cluster servers and data replication configurations that ensure uninterrupted uptime even if there is a failure. MySQL also uses a variety of backup and recovery strategies to ensure data is not lost in the event of a system crash or unintentional delete.

Scalability: As data volumes and user loads increase, the database needs to be scaled-up to cope with the additional workload without a drop in performance. MySQL can be scaled in different ways, typically via replication, clustering or sharding (or a combination of them). It is able to support and process very large databases, though this is likely to have an impact on speed. For an interesting case study, you can read about how Pinterest scaled their MySQL solution here.

Security: This is always an important consideration for businesses as they need to protect sensitive data and defend against cyberattacks. MySQL offers encryption using the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol, data masking, authentication plugins, and other layers of security to protect data integrity. The Enterprise package also includes firewall protection against cyberattacks.
